Recovery can be hard to describe using just words. So a group in West Yorkshire are using photography instead.
Our Recovery Journeys is opening its doors for the first time on Multiple Disadvantage Day – Wednesday 3rd July 2019. The pop-up photography exhibition is taking place at the WY-FI Touchstone building in Dewsbury, from 10am to 3.30pm.
It’s being organised by beneficiaries at the WY-FI Project. They’re being supported by volunteers and staff, some of whom also have lived experience of multiple disadvantage in the areas of homelessness, addiction, re-offending and mental ill-health. They’ll each be exhibiting their own work – a photograph they’ve taken themselves that represents their personal journey of recovery from Multiple Disadvantage.
The group, which meets weekly at WY-FI in Dewsbury, is really looking forward to being able to launch Our Recovery Journey on Multiple Disadvantage Day.
“Photography is a very creative and personal way to express thoughts, feelings and emotions. And by expressing them, it helps to process them as well. The photography group is growing in numbers and confidence, and it’s great that we can launch our new exhibition for Multiple Disadvantage Day.” – Rob Roche – Education, Training and Employment Peer Engagement Worker, WY-FI Project.
