Multi-Agency Practice Development Groups
The WY-FI Project is establishing five Multi-Agency Practice Development Groups (PDGs) across West Yorkshire for front-facing staff who work with people experiencing multiple needs.
Who should attend?
Any member of front-facing staff from organisations who support, or at least have contact with, people with multiple needs
Who facilitates the group?
The groups are facilitated by WY-FI’s Workforce Development and Learning Co-ordinator
Aims of the group
With a focus on people with multiple needs, the aims of the group are to develop practice by:
- Improving confidence and skills in working with challenging individuals
- To understand each other’s work
- To share good practice
- To support each other to overcome specific difficulties
- To identify any gaps or barriers in services, and
- To improve the service user experience of services
Format of the group
It is important that the PDG meets the needs of the attendees and will be developed collaboratively with the above aims in mind. Kirklees has an established group which is engaged in reflective practice following an action learning model. Other areas are focussing on networking, understanding each other’s services and how they can link up. Once this mutual understanding and trust is established, the group can engage in reflective practice following a model they feel is appropriate for them.
It is good practice for organisations to provide an opportunity for those attending the PDG to share their learning and experiences with colleagues in their teams and the wider organisation.

- Attachment and dependency
- Vicarious trauma
- The role of Peer Mentors
- Critical health conditions
- No recourse to public funds
- Abusive relationships
We’re learning that:
- PDGs are really useful for problem-solving, peer support and sharing best practice
- Successful PDGs require senior managers to actively promote them
- The role of Navigators is considered critical by the wider workforce
